About Us
Kevin & Deihdra started BEYOND. In 2019 - we bought the studio that was known as Pilates Fusion from Pat Curcio. Pat grew a strong and supportive community in Hawthorne for 5 years before she decided to retire and sell her “baby” to us. We’ve done all we can to make her proud, grow the community and be sure everyone feels welcome in our studio regardless of age, size or fitness level. We pride ourselves on being non-judgmental to all that enter and giving everyone a safe space to find what movement works for them and to ALWAYS LAUGH AND HAVE FUN! If you’re not having fun during your workout, you are in the wrong place!
This Unexpected journey has given me the amazing opportunity to work at the glamorous side of the fitness world.
KEVIN
Personal Trainer
Movement and performance have been my focus for the last 30 years.
Media:
In the 90’s I was on multiple news and television shows to talk about or demonstrate aspects of fitness. The Fitness Magazine article which featured 3 trainers (Los Angels, Chicago, and New York) was my proudest one. My client transformation was spectacular, but mostly because she had just broken up with her boyfriend and wanted a revenge body.
Notable Clients:
I have had the most interesting clients including, an Oscar winner, Movie director, leaders of Global companies, and athletes that have competed in the Olympics, footballers preparing for the NFL combine, and the 10 year old version of a future NCAA runner-up athlete.
Mentorship with Ian King:
Spent 3 years in a deep dive into the training methods and the periodization of Australia's most successful strength and conditioning coach. During this time I participated in multiple, week long, educational workshops at Tufts university. Developing and training Tufts athletes to be better prepared for the next season of their sport. Mr. King was the first person to ever design injury prevention training programs as performance training programs for the professional and olympic athletes. Now the concept is everywhere hailed by Tom Brady and Lebon James for their career longevity and lack of downtime during their seasons.
Kids U:
In 2006 I opened Kids U in Paramus. For 12 years we worked with kids to develop all the aspects of fitness in these tiny little athletes. And we tricked them into thinking they were just playing 🙂
Physical Therapy
I partnered with a Physical Therapist and from a tiny room in the back of Kids U we grew a successful Physical therapy business. For the 4 years I was involved with the physical therapist business, I was able to work side by side with PTs all day.
This work helped me to understand the most common injuries that we were seeing, the exercises to implement to get better and the strategy for making sure that those problems don’t ever arise again. - That is why we do some crazy exercise in class.
This winding journey through different aspects of the fitness world has helped develop a unique approach to my workouts. There is a back and forth between injury prevention and fear of death exercise.
Good news or bad news the truth is You will never do the same workout twice.
Who does not like what I do:
- People who have read several articles and youtube videos and already know what they need.
- Parents of athletes that think they need to work harder and not fix their structural challenges first
- People who want to jump to the end and do all the cool exercises at the beginning. Remember you can build anything on a strong foundation, but an injury makes you go back to the beginning of the journey.
What you can expect:
- We will uncover your dark little secrets. But don’t worry they are the same ones everyone else has.
- We will make you do exercises that may appear to be designed to embarrass you.
- You will be surprised at how in a month you start to feel more balanced and energetic
- You will be amazed at how easy the first workouts are and how hard the future workouts become, but only when the foundation is ready.
Deihdra:
I had never worked out or was never an athlete until somewhere around age 35/36. In 2010, I took a leap after the encouragement of Kevin and my friends to join an all women’s beginner triathlon team, Team Lipstick. And I’ve never looked back since. I learned early and quickly that movement made me feel so much better, in control of my life and my body but most importantly, it introduced me to the most amazing community. Movement Communities are simply THE BEST! Since then, I taught Pure Barre for 5 years, coached Girls on the Run for over 10 years. In 2019 became a certified Pilates Reformer teacher and the proud co-founder and co-owner of BEYOND. The fitness studio. Alongside my life parter, Kevin Kennedy. I’m also a proud member of Jersey Women Strong & SoleMates (charity arm of Girls on the Run). I feel very strongly about women finding a movement modality that they love, one they can stick with and one that empowers them. That might not be with us at BEYOND. But we are very excited and happy to help you figure out what that movement is - as movement is thte only way to age with strength and joy.

The combination of a healthy diet and physical activity is what led her to become a certified pilates instructor. Marrying movement with intention is what makes Tori a dynamic teacher.
Tori has been at BEYOND. for over a year. Since she has been here, she has become a trusted teacher and friend to the BEYOND. family. Clients can expect a challenging and rewarding session , with emphasis on form, fun and hard work. When she’s not teaching pilates, she is caring for her two teenage daughters and husband. Fun fact Tori has recently become obsessed with crocheting!!
Theresa:
I was an active kid - or as my family would say - a hyperactive kid who never stopped hopping around. I rollerbladed, played handball, racquetball, roller hockey, and rode my bike. I literally never sat still. But as I grew into adulthood I became very sedentary in a career that kept me at a desk 50 hours a week. I found myself overweight in my late 20s and not at all like the active kid I once was. I decided to sign up for a Leukemia & Lymphoma Team In Training Event in 2009. I trained for nearly a year, lost weight, and completed a century cycling ride. I was hooked on endurance sports and went on to complete the Philly Marathon in 2012 and the NYC Marathon a year later with a smattering of other races in between. After some well-earned injuries and more time at a desk, I knew I needed and wanted to get back to movement and make it a part of my everyday life. I connected with a Nutrition Coach & Personal Trainer and working with this individual changed my approach & mindset toward fitness and food. It’s what inspired me to pursue personal training. I want to help people find their strength in movement, feel comfortable in their bodies and bring out the best in everyone I encounter. I remain active in the athletic community with the awesome teams of Jersey Women Strong and AgoNY o’de Feet.
